Rose Dust Sweater

This is the Rose Dust Sweater. My first design. It is also my bestselling pattern.

Made using the granite stitch (also known as the moss stitch or linen stitch) it has a great texture and I bet you can’t help to fall in love with the stitch while working it.

The story

I was fairly new to crochet garments when I found this beautiful pink and white yarn on sale. I fell in love at once and knew I had to get it! I started to browse all the amazing patterns out there for the perfect project for my new perfect yarn and nothing seamed right. I found beautiful designs, but nothing that came close to what I wanted to achieve. So I decided to try to make it myself.

It was in the beginning of May and I had a wedding coming up in Sweden as well as a trip to Berlin. Not the best time to try to design your first garment. But I did. Most of the sweater has been crocheted in airports, planes, trains or on subway rides. When I came back from my trips the sweater was done and I posted it on Instagram asking a bit as a joke if someone wanted me to write the pattern. The response was huge! I ended up spending the next month writing the pattern and have it tested by 14 lovely testers that patiently helped me perfect my first pattern. It turned out great in the end if I can say it myself.

Construction

Made by a beginner for beginners. As my first design I tried to keep it as simple as possible. The sweater is worked flat in four pieces. One front section, one back section and two sleeves. These are then seamed together and a neckband is added to finish it off. It uses simple stitches like the granite stitch (which is a single crochet and a chain), half double crochet and front and back post stitches.

It can be made either with the back and front section equally long or, as I did, with the back section a bit longer.

The sleeve are shaped to fit your arm and the pattern includes instructions how to modify it even further.

The pattern

It is a written pattern with step-by-step instructions. It is written in English using US crochet terminology and the pattern is also available in Swedish.

The pattern includes many photos and is easy to follow. It also has links to YouTube videos that explains some of the stitches / steps.

The pattern guides you through how to shape the arms to fit you and it also gives you an example on how to make it in two colors.
