How I express myself through my craft
Have you seen the smile on a maker's face when they put on a garment they have just completed? The happiness and proudness in their eyes?
I see it, I love it and I flourish on it.
A garment is an item you spend days or weeks making. This project becomes your friend for a moment in life. It helps you to relax, breathe and be present in the moment. You get to make something beautiful with your hands and when you are done you can proudly say: “I made this!”
As a designer I get to be a part of all this. My designs capture moments. They capture feelings. And they capture a part of me. My personality comes to life and shines through all of my designs. The minimalist, the perfectionist, the introvert but also the extrovert, the artist and the artisan.
Designing lets me dream, grow and focus. I get to use and capture my experiences from my surroundings, travels, nature and everyday life and combine them into something beautiful.
Sometimes the moment that I capture is when I was looking at my tomato plants at the balcony and saw the richness of life and color.
Or it could be a memory of walking the streets of Helsinki and seeing all of the beautiful architecture, the mix of locals and tourists, the busy parks or the sea.
Perhaps the moment was a memory of an early morning in San Francisco, getting a coffee to go and walking by the sea looking at the fog.
All these kinds of moments come together in my mind in harmony and mix with my personality and experiences to make a design that truly speaks to you.
Happy Making!
