Striped Crochet Sweater - Monday Morning Sweater

Sometimes you feel the urge to make something simple. Simple, but yet stylish. That is the perfect way to explain the Monday Morning Sweater!  If you have a look at all the beautiful versions my testers have made I am sure you will agree.

This is sweater is the type of sweater you’ll be wondering why you haven’t made sooner. It has a natural place in your closet and is one of those sweaters you’ll be wearing a lot. With a nice thick double brim neckband and slight bell sleeves it does have beautiful details that makes it stand out.

I wanted to create a sweater that you’ll like to wear. Sometimes when you’ve made something nice handmade you might feel that it is too pretty to wear, at least I get that feeling sometimes. This sweater screams: wear me, please! It is so comfortable and cosy that you’ll have a hard time taking it off.

Get a boost to your Monday morning

The name: Monday Morning Sweater is inspired by the everyday life of this sweater. It is a reminder that it is perfect to wear on a regular Monday, but also it is a reminder to put on a nice sweater also on a regular Monday. I am sure your Monday will feel a bit better looking down on your newly made Monday Morning Sweater.

Construction and customisation

Made top down, this sweater is easy to customise in body length and sleeve length. Some of my pattern testers made it cropped in length, others made it longer to get a perfect oversized sweater to lounge around to house with some leggings. The sleeves are bell sleeves but could be easily made as straight sleeves and the length could be full length or 3/4, all as according to your preferences.

I am sure your Monday will feel a bit better looking down at your newly made Monday Morning Sweater.

Yarn

The sweater is also a stash buster in a sense. You need a proper amount of yarn in the main colors, but for the contrasting color you can take scraps of what you have at home. It doesn’t need to be the same for every stripe. Mix and match as you please.

I made mine using Paintbox Yarns Simply DK in 101 pure black and 108 light caramel. My pattern tester Erin used 127 Racing Green as main color and 153 Blush Pink and 123 Mustard Yellow as contrasting colors.

I crocheted mine using my 4 mm (G) Furls Streamline Wood, I like the flow and grip of this hook. Using a small hook size and DK weight yarn gives this sweater a nice drape while not making it too thick to wear. The stitch it is made in gives a lot go height, so the sweater is still fairly quick to make even though it uses a small hook size.

Here are some of my other patterns using DK yarn:
