The story
In January I applied to be featured on the Make & Do Crew blog as one of their guest designers. Waking up on a Saturday morning in February seeing the email that my design had got accepted was like a dream coming true.
My sister was visiting and I jumped out of bed walking up everyone in the apartment telling them about the great news. They wondered why I would wake someone up at 6 am on a Saturday, but I was so excited!
I learned how to crochet garments from Jess at Make & Do Crew. I remember visiting the website and dreaming of being as good as a crocheter as Jess. My first every crocheted garment was from Make & Do Crew and it was the spark that I needed to go into designing and make garments.
The SubLime Sweater was designed with autumn in mind. I had just had different polls on instagram asking you about your favourite types of sweaters and necklines. A V-neck pullover was one of your favourite options. I knew that it would be my design proposal for the blog. That way as many of you would be reached and be able to make it.
The sweater is designed to be easy to wear both for home and out and about. It is is comfortable and cozy that you want to wear it all the time.
My pattern testers are all busy moms explaining it as the perfect sweater to wear with sneakers to the playground or at home.
The Rose Dust Sweater, Copper Leaves Raglan and Morning Waves Cardigan are also perfect for this.
Yarn
Visiting Lion Brand’s website choosing the colours for my design was not as easy as I would have thought. So many nice options and variations.
I had my sister helping me and we decided that the LB Collection - Merino Yak Alpaca seemed to have the perfect colours and make an excellent drape. When the yarn arrived I wasn’t disappointed. The drape is excellent for this sweater and the mix of fibres makes it perfectly light weight but still warm. I love a crocheted garment that is not heavy to wear!
With 13 colour options to choose from it wasn’t easy to choose my favourites. I went for taupe, sage, oatmeal, mustard on mine.
I can also see great versions using dusty pink, oatmeal, taupe, merlot or why not shades of blue with denim, teal, navy and ink blue?
The options are endless and you can make a version unique to you. I’d also like to make a Harry Potter version using the mustard and red.
The construction of this sweater is simple, and with a mix of single crochet and double crochet it is beginner friendly.
Even if it is a garment it is surprisingly fast to make and even though it repeats the same pattern repeat row after row the colour changes keeps it interesting and fun.
I wanted to keep it simple and didn’t add a ribbing on this one. That makes it also a faster project and you’ll be able to wear it in perfect time for sweater weather!
